Money's tight. Now what for special education?
Schools need to cut budgets. State funding is down. We all know that.
Special education is an entitlement program--the only one in our schools.
With tight budgets, what do we do about special education?
Maintain programs? Well, what of other students.
Cut programs? Well, what of the entitlement?
Cut the number of students covered? Easier said than done.
Any ideas?

You are talking about a very vulnerable population. Leaving them behind truly means leaving them behind. The costs for educating them now is nothing compared to what it will cost later on, when as adults they can't be independent because the schools didn't do their job. While it's unfortunate that kids in special education get "more," than other students and cost far more to educate as well, not doing this only increases their dependency later on. Pay a little now or pay a lot more later. I'd rather pay a little now and save some lives while I'm at it.
